According to a study by realtor.com, Pittsburgh is a great city for finding new friends. The real estate website looked at the 42 largest metropolitan areas from a 2013 University of Utah study on social interaction potential, added criteria of their own, and found Pittsburgh to be number four on the list.
Realtor.com noted that the University of Utah study "measured how much access strangers in cities have to one another, such as meeting on the subway, striking up conversations in a coffee shop, or simply bumping into one another on the street."
The website then added criteria of their own to the search such as the number of bookstores, libraries, gyms, church congregations per 100,000 adults, percentage of single adults, and more. Pittsburgh came in at number four on the list with an adult population of 1.9 million, median home price at $160,000, the fourth-highest percentage of church congregations, second-highest number of libraries, and highest percentage of service clubs.
The article also notes that Pittsburgh is "home to nearly 70 colleges and universities, which provide plenty of opportunities for adults taking continuing education classes to share notes."
